Slideshow with next and prev buttons in Android Studio 1.5.1
Tutorial step by step with free source code: how to make a slideshow, with ViewFlipper, displaying pictures with next and prevbuttons in Android Studio version 1.5.1.
Create New Project with Application name: Slideshow Next Prev; Minimum SDK: API 10 – Android 2.3.3 (Gingerbread).
Add pictures as many as you want from your computer, in project folder app->res->drawable: picture1.jpg, picture2.jpg, picture3.jpg etc.
In app->res->layout->activity_main.xml add an ImageView for each picture you want to display in slideshow, inside of ViewFlipper and complete the code:
package com.example.toyo.slideshownextprev;
import android.support.v7.app.AppCompatActivity;
import android.os.Bundle;
import android.view.View;
import android.widget.Button;
import android.widget.ViewFlipper;
public class MainActivity extends AppCompatActivity implements View.OnClickListener {
ViewFlipper viewFlipper;
Button next;
Button previous;
@Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);
viewFlipper = (ViewFlipper)findViewById(R.id.viewFlipper);
next = (Button) findViewById(R.id.next);
previous = (Button) findViewById(R.id.previous);
next.setOnClickListener(this);
previous.setOnClickListener(this);
}
@Override
public void onClick(View v) {
if (v == next) {
viewFlipper.showNext();
}
else if (v == previous) {
viewFlipper.showPrevious();
}
}
}
That’s all!
Run your app in Emulator and see how you can change the images from slideshow with next and prev buttons.

Hi, how to create a photo album whereby i can swipe up and down to see all the picture and enlarge the picture when I click on to it. Really appreciate your help. 🙂
Congratulations. Very nice this tutorial. I have one doubt. Can I use this example with fragment? Do I have to declare this code in the fragment activity at onCreate or onCreateView? Thanks.
help me to solve the error of unfortunately application stop when I install app in emulator using android studio ..I write the same code,
but it’s not working.
I have image in :-
GalleryImgDetailsActivity.imageDataList.get(0);
and i want to show image click on previous button and next button click one by one
final ImageView rightimagebtn=(ImageView)findViewById(R.id.right_button);
rightimagebtn.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() {
@Override
public void onClick(View view) {
int ListSize = GalleryImgDetailsActivity.imageDataList.size();
for(int i = 0; i > ListSize; i++) {
}
}
});
final ImageView leftimagebtn=(ImageView)findViewById(R.id.left_button);
leftimagebtn.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() {
@Override
public void onClick(View view) {
This does not work with many images because “” executes all the images as if at the same time, which generates a high memory consumption and creates errors.
On devices with low memory it does not open (2gb of ram and less) and on more advanced equipment it could run but if it has between 2gb of ram and 6gb of ram it will consume all the resources of the smartphone and freeze it.
Do not use this method for more than 10 images.
I apologize to the creator of the post and I appreciate your help but this guide does not work.

viewFlipper consumes a lot of resources to be so many images, that’s why the app breaks when you open or the smartphone freezes
